Large, heavily color illustrated monograph (several hundred illustrations) documenting the local history and tradition of artisanal woodcarving in the Swiss village of Brienz (Bernese Oberland)during the 19th and 20th century. Besides producing souvenirs and decorative objects these artisans also produced elaboratly hand carved furniture, including wooden clock cases (as illustrated in pages devoted to tall case clocks [pages193] and shelf clocks [pages 242-249], othe images of clocks are on pages 6, 40, 53, 54, 67, 60, 71, 83, 158, 159, 160-167). All Brienzerware is commonly (but erroneously) referred to as 'Black Forest" style. Index, Bibliography.
