New Jersey, 1918. Edna Bolz joined the United State Radium Corporation, a factory that supplied the army with watches, as a worker. Alongside Katherine, Mollie, Albina, Quinta and the others, she will learn the craft of painting dials using Undark paint (a very precious and expensive luminescent substance) at a constant rate. But although the workload is high, the atmosphere at the factory is quite good. The girls get along well and even go out together at night. They call themselves the " Ghost Girls »: Playfully, they paint their nails, teeth or face in order to (literally) dazzle others after dark. But they don't realize that behind its amazing properties Radium, the substance they manipulate all day and play with, is actually deadly. And as some of them begin to suffer from anemia, fractures or even tumors, voices are raised to understand. Others, to cover up the case ... Designer Cy tells us about the terrible fate of the Radium Girls, these young women unjustly sacrificed on the altar of technical progress. A journey of women in the turbulent America of the 1920s where, behind the luminous recklessness of youth, a real tragedy of modern times is played out.
