Alongside Katherine, Mollie, Albina, Quinta and the others, she will learn the craft of painting dials using Undark paint (a very precious and expensive luminescent substance) at a constant rate. But although the workload is high, the atmosphere at the factory is quite good. The girls get along well and even go out together at night. They call themselves the " Ghost Girls »: Playfully, they paint their nails, teeth or face in order to (literally) dazzle others after dark. But they don't realize that behind its amazing properties Radium, the substance they manipulate all day and play with, is actually deadly. And as some of them begin to suffer from anemia, fractures or even tumors, voices are raised to understand. Others, to cover up the case ...
