"After his apprenticeship, V.-A. Pierret perfected himself in the art of watchmaking by ironing and repairing watches. He thus acquired invaluable experience and recognition with the most renowned watchmakers, particularly in Switzerland. Anxious to share his knowledge and know-how, V.-A. Pierret first details the operation of the different types of pendulums he has come across: mobile sphere and date pendulum clocks, skeleton clocks with resting escapement, eight-day clocks, etc. There is no good craftsman without good tools V.-A. Pierret thus continues his subject by detailing some of the tools frequently used in watchmaking and which he himself contributed to improving drilling, milling, tapping, anchor cutting, pleating and embossing machines, sawmill mechanical... More unexpected is the last part devoted to the description of ingenious machines imagined and made by the author. In fact, there was no longer any question of watchmaking in 1848, following a request by the press from the authorities, V.-A. Pierret uses all his ingenuity and his knowledge to design, for example, a machine allowing the representatives of the people to vote while instantly giving the result of the deliberations.
